Volume 5 ~ August 2025

Your Input Is Always Appreciated!

Welcome everybody to the 5th addition of the PHA Insider for August 2025.

I want to offer a special thanks to all 12 teammates who contributed to the July addition where we took your input to improve our 9th Core Value.  Those who participated rated this value as an 8.5 in importance, so it looks like we are going to keep this one in the lineup.

Additionally, I am recognizing 6 teammates who have contributed to all 4 insiders, with an incremental $20 “loyalty incentive”.  See, I am always looking to sneak in some extra cash for participation.  I am hoping you will take full advantage of these types of opportunities.

Below you can see the dramatic improvements you made to Core Value #9.  I can assure you, every word you contributed was considered and helped us shape the final version.  Your input is not only appreciated…. it’s essential.

Don’t forget to contribute to the title as well at the body of the Value as well.

Next month we will give you another opportunity to perfect yet another Core Value.

The original Core Value #9:

Be Strong Individually and as a Team

We require individual excellent performance while also expecting teamwork and initiative outside our position description for the benefit of others..

The updated Core Value #9:

Effective Independently, Exceptional Collectively

We require excellent individual performance as passionate professionals skilled in our craft. We also expect noteworthy teamwork, collaboration and initiative of your time, gifts and talents for the benefit of others to evolve and improve.

I don’t know if you ever tried to beat a wave breaking before, you know, maybe with a boat or possibly a surfboard or boogie board, or maybe just swimming in the ocean.

If the waves are big, it can be scary and quite challenging, even life threatening. It’s serious.

I chose this video because it’s a lot like running a business.

To be successful, a business takes a team of individuals with unique gifts, talents, and strengths–all tethered together and completely dependent on the collective effort, efficiency, and the performance of the entire unit.

To not only win the race, but to not get clobbered by the force of nature.

I think that video of this boating team is really relevant. A lot has to come together nicely to make a business work successfully. Everyone matters individually and as a productive team.

In this video, you will notice how some call out the directions as others simply cannot see. The size and strength of the individual may vary in position on the boat as they have different roles to perform when the wave hits. All are communicating. They’re actively reacting to the changing environment with urgency. All are excited to participate and compete, and all depend upon each other. That is what makes teamwork special.

At PHA, our ninth core value is “effective independently, exceptional collectively”.

We require excellent individual performance as passionate professionals skilled in our craft. We also expect noteworthy teamwork, collaboration, and initiative of your time, gifts, and talents for the benefit of others to evolve and improve.

I have seen wonderful teammates that are so much fun, great personalities, friends, however, could not perform the role consistently with excellence. That simply will not get us there.

On the flip side, I’ve seen rock star individual performers who frankly were toxic to others, and team was not a part of their vocabulary. That doesn’t work either.

In our business, to build a unique and successful culture, we need both. It’s not okay to coast and not invest in your own profession, skills, education, and growth. Your team depends on you getting stronger.

Do you think this crew in this video practices strength training individually between group practices to improve their capabilities and contribution to the team? You bet they do. You know, this applies to this applies to all different professional athletes as well as other professions. I mean, think about it. Doctors and accountants, designers, many other professions are required to take continual education each year.

Are you investing in your own career and your own skill set?

Don’t miss the big picture here. Being a contributor on a winning team is magical and very fulfilling. And I’m sure any team that wins championships will agree. There is something sweet about winning with a team that will energize you, motivate you, and drive you in a greater way than simply achieving the trophy alone. Our team needs you.

Thank you.

In this issue of the PHA Insider, we are asking for your feedback and taking a Pulse on the company culture, as well as, understanding the importance of each of our roles within the organization.

Many of you have used the Insider as a vehicle for feedback and suggestions, and with this issue, we simply wanted to give you a more focused and dedicated opportunity to share.

So, please take a couple minutes from your busy day and answer the question at the bottom of this communication so we can better understand areas to improve and celebrate what we do well.

Thank you,

Erin Sig
